  • We have collected/received great feedback from our customers over the  past 2 months since the launch of our new website on 14th Nov 2011.

We have been working hard to improve the 2 most important features on our website

    Search

We are continuously monitoring what  our customers are searching for, this gives us great insights into

    a. What restaurants are users searching for – this helps us to figure out potential tie ups with new restaurants that can be added to our network.
    b. What cuisines are users searching and filtering on.
    c. What food items are users searching for.
    d. The number of results that each search query spits out (we keep a careful track on the count 0 = no results)

Another thing we are keeping a close track on is incorrect spellings while searching, which takes users to a no result page frustrating!! We have created our own system “did you mean” feature that helps customers find what they are looking for (a continuous process).

An overview of our search results page, a lot of features added to refine your search results.

    Menus

Another page we have worked really hard on is our menu pages, since restaurants menus are lengthy and boring to browse online we have divided the entire menu into various sections that make filtering the menu a breeze.

Another important feature we added recently is a better menu search, which make searching for an item in menu very easy. Just search for your item and the menu auto scrolls to the exact position of the item and then click add to cart.

An overview of our menu section and how various parts of the menu are easily accessible

  • Biryani, is a set of rice-based foods made with spices, basmati rice and meat, fish, eggs or vegetables. The name is derived from the Farsi word ‘birian’ which means “fried” or “roasted”. Biryani was originated in Iran (Persia) and it was brought to South Asia by Iranian travelers and merchants.
    Chicken Biryani, Hyderabadi dum Biryani
The most popular of all Biryanis is Hyderabadi Dum Biryani. Dum means steam and dum pukht means to choke off the steam. The food is placed in a pot made of clay, and a dough is used to create a tight seal to prevent steam from escaping. The food is cooked slowly in its own juices and steam, allowing herbs and spices to fully infuse the meat or rice, preserving the nutritional elements.

While the key ingredients remain the same, many regions have developed their own ways of cooking and serving Biryani. Like in Hyderabadi Biryani, both the marinated meat and the rice are cooked together. While in Lucknowi Biryani, the rice and meat are cooked separately and then layered.

The essential requirement for a good Biryani is to use good quality fragrant long grained basmati rice. For a non-vegetarian biryani, the main ingredient that accompanies the spices is the meat—beef, chicken, goat, lamb, fish or prawns. A biryani is also accompanied with Dahi Chutney, or Raitha.

For all the Biryani lovers in Pune, Tastykhana.com is just a call away and we will not only suggest you with the best biryani in town but also deliver it to your home.

  • Oh! Calcutta is an ode, a celebration to the romantic city of Calcutta and its gastronomic delights. It offers a diverse and traditional fare of authentic Bengali cuisine that is reminiscent of Kolkata as it once was. A city with electric trams, horse carriages for taxis and large motorcars carrying gentlemen and ladies to the clubs – a cultural capital and an intellectual force.

Food delivery, Home delivery , bengali food

The cuisine at Oh! Calcutta is, of course, quintessential Bengali. Contemporary, yet evocative; modern yet traditional. Our chefs regularly source rare ingredients from the region, visiting small hamlets in search of a unique dish. The whole point of the exercise is to consistently surprise the palate – to ensure a constant stream of unique experiences.

Oh! Calcutta is where Bengalis meet to taste home food and non-Bengalis enjoy such famed delicacies as Smoked Bekti, Mutton Rezzala and the famous Hilsa (Ilish). And that’s not all. Only here can you discover the lost culinary arts served originally in the old Kolkata Clubs – the Colonial Cuisine which left the land with the British.

Depending on which region of the country you are in, the different dishes that form part of the thali are quite different. But what they share in common is the presentation – a big round plate with lots of little katoris (bowls) arrange on the right side of the circular plate.

And the lower half is usually reserved for rotis, puris or rice and of course, you have the pickles and other accompaniments, like papad, onion, green chillies etc, stuffed wherever place is to be found on the plate!

  • 96K: This word itself is mystifying! Not Karat, not thousand!

    TastyKhana.com Pune: 96K - The Maratha Tadka

96K, stands for shahan nav kuli, the first 96 Maratha Families who have roots in Rajasthan. These families are generally referred as 96 clans or kulis” explains owner Radha Mhaske.

“In other words we serve genuine Maratha food here”.

The food seems genuine enough, the soothing Solkadhi is a light pink appetizer made from coconut milk and kokum extract has right tang and chilled enough to beat the sweltering heat. If you like it in sweet n’ sour version, the frosted kokum juice is as good and alleviating.

Starters are not that spicy, traditional kanda bhaji or Onion Pakoras are served with hot green chutney or tomato sauce as per you preference. The Kothimbir Wadi, fritters made from fresh coriander and besan are is correctly crisp and delicious. The non-vegetarians or especially fish lovers can go for Golden Fried prawns or more adventurous Patra Fish, where the fish stuffed in green masala is steamed in banana or turmeric leaves. Or there is the traditional Fish Fry fried in customary coastal Maharashtrian way!

The main course is not very confusing. In fact, the freshness of the restaurant is the limited menu that it serves and is similar to the meals Maharashtrians cook at home. “We didn’t want to go the commercial way and make mass food where the chicken curry tastes like Mutton rassa” said Miss. Mhaske.

Tackling the veggie fare, the either-you-hate-or-love pithla is tasty enough for the mild tongued. The amti or ambat waran is yummy and piquant. Its fluid consistency is neither too thick nor too thin. The non-veg lovers can never miss Mutton Rassa with customary bhakri or the more remarkable – Wade: Konkani bread made from mixed flour dipped in fiery mutton rassa.

In case you find it difficult to go to the restaurant or you want to enjoy a party at home, you need not worry because now you can order food online at Tastykhana.com or call us on 3300 6464 and your favorite Maratha food will be at your doorstep within minutes!
